The University Grants Commission (UGC) has cautioned students against taking admission in the Digital University of Skill Resurgence in Wardha, Maharashtra. The commission said that it has observed that this university is offering various degree courses which is a gross violation of the UGC Act, 1956.

“It has come to the notice of the University Grants Commission that ‘Digital University of Skill Resurgence (a Virtual Meta University)’, 54, Samrat Nagar Near Hindi University, Ring Road, Wardha (Maharashtra)-442001 is offering various courses/programmes. Violation of the UGC Act, 1956,” the UGC said in an official notification issued on Tuesday, July 19.

The UGC has warned students against enrolling in the Digital University of Skill Resurgence in Maharashtra.

“Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956, stipulates that the right to confer or confer degrees shall be exercised only by a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act or a University established or incorporated by an institution. UGC Secretary Rajneesh Jain said that the University under section 3 or an institution specially empowered by an Act of Parliament.

“Digital University of Skill Resurgence is neither listed under section 2(1) or section 3 in the list of universities nor is it empowered to confer any degree as per section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956. Further, No institution, whether a corporate body or not, other than a University established or incorporated by or under a Central Act, a Provincial Act or a State Act shall in any way be entitled to the word “University” attached to its name, “They said.

UGC The Secretary further warned both the students and their parents not to take admission in the above-mentioned self-styled institution and said, “The career of the students may be put at risk by taking admission in such self-styled institution.”
