UGC introduces syllabus of cyber security courses at UG, PG level

The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday launched the syllabus of cyber security courses at Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) levels. The objective of the course is to develop an understanding of cyber security issues for students from non-technical streams as well.

Launching the course on the occasion of Cyber ​​Jagriti Diwas, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said, “Cyber ​​security as a subject needs to be included in all streams at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The curriculum of these courses is aimed at creating aware, responsible and responsible digital citizens, thereby contributing effectively to an overall healthy cyber security posture and ecosystem.”

He said, “For classroom transactions of these courses at UG and PG level, Institutes of Higher Education (HEIS) may invite experts from Cyber ​​Security / Computer / IT qualified faculty or industry / subject experts to take lectures, practicals and tutorials. Huh.”

As per the syllabus released by UGC, UG level students are expected to cover basic and mid level concepts while PG level students will study mid and advanced level concepts.

The subjects at UG level include Cyber ​​Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Introduction to Laws, Social Media Overview, E-Commerce, Digital Payments and Security of Digital Devices, while at PG level Cyber ​​Crime, Cyber ​​Laws, Data Privacy and Security, Cyber ​​Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security, Cyber ​​Crime and Security. Security management, and compliance and governance, among others, will be taught.

According to the course document, “After the completion of this module, students will be able to understand basic security aspects related to computers and mobiles. They will be able to use basic tools and technologies to protect their devices.”

The document further reads, “After completing this module, students will have an understanding of the legal framework that exists in India for cybercrime, including aspects related to personal data privacy and security. They will also get information about the Data Protection Bill, 2019 and data privacy and security issues related to social media platforms.”

Courses will be introduced in universities and colleges under elective or elective categories. The will also includes practicals for topics such as privacy settings on social media platforms, filing complaints about social media platforms, and creating password policies for computers and mobile devices.
