UGC issues guidelines to facilitate two academic programs simultaneously – Times of India

New Delhi: University Grants Commission (UGC), issuing guidelines allowing a student to pursue two academic degrees simultaneously in physical mode, has written to institutions of higher education (he is) on Friday to make statutory changes to facilitate this quickly.

As envisaged in the National Education Policy 2020, the guidelines state that the objective of allowing a student to pursue two degrees simultaneously is to identify, identify and promote the unique abilities of each student, between arts and sciences. There is no hard separation, between curricular and extra-curricular activities, vocational and academic streams, etc., and to enable a person to study one or more specialized fields at a deeper level, and also to develop character, moral and constitutional values …, among others.
As per the guidelines, “a student may pursue two full-time academic programs in physical mode, provided that in such cases, the class time for one program does not overlap with the class time of the other programme,” and “a student may pursue two academic programmes, one in full-time physical mode and the other in open and distance learning (ODL)/online mode; or up to two simultaneous ODL/online programmes.”
According to the UGC, these guidelines will be effective from the date of their notification by the UGC, which is September 30, 2022 and students cannot claim any retrospective benefit.
In its letter to HEI, the UGC said: “All Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) were requested to devise mechanisms to allow students to pursue two academic programs simultaneously through their statutory bodies. . Once again it is requested to ensure and expedite the implementation of the said scheme in the larger interest of the students, if not done so far.
