UGC issues SOP for Republic Day celebrations for colleges, institutions

This year, the Republic Day celebrations will be part of the “Amrit Mahotsav of Independence” as India celebrates its 75th year of independence.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed colleges and institutions to ensure adherence to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Republic Day celebrations on January 26. The SOPs have been issued by the Ministry of Defence. Republic Day celebrations this year will be part of the “Amrit Mahotsav of Independence”. India Celebrating 75th anniversary of independence.

The Republic Day flag hoisting ceremony in all higher educational institutions should end before 9.30 am and all teachers/staff and students are expected to participate. Flag hoisting programs can be organized in virtual mode or physical mode depending on the situation of Kovid-19 in their respective areas. Information on the National War Memorial (NWM) may be disseminated through videos of the memorial or other relevant material.

-each high Education The organization is required to make a craft project to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the country’s independence and send it to the jawans at the border. A central mechanism will be provided by the Defense Ministry to the jawans to get these projects done. Students may be asked to complete these tasks from home if HEIs are closed. The project should promote the ideas of “Waste to Best” and “Waste to Wealth” and utilize some of the waste materials.

An online quiz competition is being organized for students of class 6 and above on the MyGov platform from January 5 to 20, 2023. The topic of the quiz is “Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Defense Production and Apna Desh Apna Weapon”.

Other events include debates, skits, essays and competitions for classroom projects on the theme Five Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which will be conducted online and in person from January 10 to January 25, the Republic Day. The winners of the same will be announced and felicitated during the Republic Day celebrations of the respective institutions.

– Quiz on India’s freedom struggle, gallantry awards, military victories etc. can also be organized by the HEI. In addition, higher education institutions may choose to conduct their own core set of activities as well. UGC has requested that all the recommendations of Kovid management issued from time to time by the Central and State Governments should be properly implemented.
