UK sees omicron cases jump to 10,000, deaths rise to 7 – Times of India

LONDON: Cases of the fast-spreading Omicron version of the coronavirus in the United Kingdom rose sharply to nearly 25,000, according to British health officials, while the total number of deaths so far rose to seven.
The UK’s Health Protection Agency said on Saturday that confirmed Omicron-variant Covid-19 cases were 24,968 as of 1800 GMT on 17 December, up from more than 10,000 cases 24 hours earlier.
Deaths of people with the Omicron strain rose to seven by 16 December, one of the UKHSA’s previous data that ran until 14 December, and hospitalizations increased from 65 to 85.
