Uma Bharti threw stones at a liquor shop in Bhopal, ‘warning’ the administration

Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti, demanding complete prohibition in party-ruled Madhya Pradesh, entered a liquor shop in Bhopal’s Azad Nagar area on Sunday evening and pelted stones at liquor bottles kept on a shelf there. A video of the incident, which Bharti shared on her Twitter handle, went viral on social media. The former Union Minister said that through his act, he has warned the local administration to close the liquor shop within a week. In the video, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, surrounded by her supporters and local residents, enters a liquor store, picks up a stone and throws it at some bottles kept on the shelf. After that his followers raise slogans in his support and also chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. The BJP government in Madhya Pradesh recently unveiled a new excise policy, under which it has allowed setting up of home bars and reduced the retail prices of liquor by 20 per cent.

Bharti had earlier announced that it would launch an anti-liquor campaign in the state. But he had also clarified that his campaign of prohibition was not against the state government. Sharing a video of her action at the outlet, Bharti tweeted, “There are many liquor shops in a labor colony in Barkheda Pathani area, where liquor is served in ‘ahta’ (enclosed place). “The money of these laborers goes out in these shops. Residents and women have protested and protested because the liquor shop is against the policy of the government. The administration had assured many times in the past that it would close the shop, but It hasn’t happened for many years,” she said.

“Today I have warned the administration to shut it down in a week,” he said.
