‘Uncertainty on capital issue drove industries’

VV Laxminarayan gave support to the farmers of Amravati

Bureaucrat-turned-politician VV Lakshminarayana on Sunday extended his support to farmers’ demand for Amaravati to remain the state’s sole capital when the Maha padayatra resumes from Puttamaraju Kandriga near Gudur in SPSR Nellore district on Sunday.

Uncertainty drove industries in other states after the YSR Congress Party government’s decision to bifurcate the capital, said Amaravati Parikshan Samiti convener A.K. Siva Reddy while walking some distance with a group of 157 farmers.

Heads of industry and trade, who had finalized proposals to set up their units in Andhra Pradesh, now preferred Hyderabad or Bengaluru for their expansion plans, lamented.

When the government projected a world-class capital, he commended the farmers for generously giving their land to the state.

“Nothing can be attributed to the selfless sacrifice of the farmers who envisaged Amaravati as the growth engine of the state,” he said.

He said that Jagan Mohan Reddy government should promote Amaravati centric development while promoting industries in every district of the state.

A group of Chennai residents donated ₹7 lakh to farmers on the occasion, while some presented new saris to women farmers near Balayapalli village.

Near Mylavaram in Krishna district, G. Farmers from Konduru distributed rice bags and vegetables, as their counterparts from Amaravati set up their tents at Vengampuram village for the night’s halt after covering a distance of 13 km.
