“Unconstitutional”: Madras High Court on Reservation for Vaniyars

The Madras High Court has issued an order terming the reservation for Vaniyars in Tamil Nadu as “unconstitutional”.

Madurai (Tamil Nadu):

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday issued an order terming the 10.5 per cent internal reservation for Vanniyar community in Tamil Nadu as “unconstitutional”.

The order issued by the court said that the internal reservation of 10.5 per cent for Vaniyars within the 20 per cent reservation for the most backward classes in education and public employment is unconstitutional.

While pronouncing the verdict, Justices Murali Shankar and Duraiswami said that it is wrong to give caste-based reservation without caste-based Sensex.
