The Madhya Pradesh government has said that a 108-feet tall statue of religious leader and philosopher Adi Shankaracharya or Shankaracharya and a Rs 2,000-crore project to set up an international museum in the state will connect it with the rest of the world. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had addressed a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Acharya Shankar Cultural Ekta Nyas last week to discuss the project. Prominent saints and members of the trust participated in the meeting including Swami Avedshanand Giri Ji Maharaj.

The opposition Congress has raised doubts over the project and said it will discuss it only after the funds are allocated in the state budget. The party has also pointed to the huge debt on the state.

The Chief Minister said that the project of setting up 108 feet multi-metal statue of Adi Shankara Museum and International Vedanta Sansthan at Omkareshwar would connect the state with the world.

Called the Statue of Oneness, the height of this statue will be 108 feet and it will be installed on a 54 feet high platform. The Murti and Shankar Museum will be set up in an area of ​​7.5 hectares on the Mandhata mountain. a Gurukulam An area of ​​5 hectares will be developed on the other side of river Narmada and Acharya Shankar International Advaita Vedanta Sansthan will be developed in an area of ​​10 hectares.

Shri Chouhan said that the establishment of the statue of Shankaracharya in Omkareshwar is a project to bring to life the practical Vedanta. He said, “Let this world become one family, this is the motive behind it. The suggestions given by the members of the trust will be implemented by the state government and work will be done expeditiously to finalize the entire action plan.”

Leader of Opposition Kamal Nath said that it should not be taken seriously. “When funds are allocated for the project in the budget, then we will discuss it,” he said.

This expenditure on a law comes at a time when the state’s debt exceeds the total budget allocation. The state budget is Rs 2.41 lakh crore but the total debt is Rs 2.56 lakh crore. The per capita debt in the state is around Rs.34 thousand.

Congress has demanded a white paper on debt. Former minister and senior Congress leader Jitu Patwari said, “The state already has a debt of Rs 2.56 lakh crore, but the Shivraj government is taking loans regularly on one pretext or the other. 48,000 crores. The state government should issue a white paper on the state of its finances.”

The announcement also comes as the standing rabi or winter crop is spread over hundreds of acres in 18 districts of the state when the state was hit by hailstorm on Friday evening. Madhya Pradesh Agriculture Minister Kamal Patel said that officials of the Revenue and Agriculture Department are surveying the affected villages. He said that 25 percent of the compensation amount would be paid to the farmers immediately.
