Union Budget 2022 | ₹1.85 lakh crore allocation to the Ministry of Home Affairs; CAPF, Police get funds for modernization

An increase of about ₹20,000 crore from the current financial year when it was allocated ₹1,66,546.94 crore

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been allocated ₹1,85,776.55 crore in the Union Budget 2022-23 – an increase of 11% from ₹1,66,547 crore allocated to it in the current fiscal.

Border management has seen a 42% growth from ₹1,921.39 crore in 2021-22 to ₹2,517.02 crore in 2022-23, while border infrastructure has been allocated ₹2,130 crore to ₹2,744 crore in 2021-22.

A major component of the allocated funds – ₹2,092.42 crore – has been reserved for “research”, which is higher than the revised allocation of ₹1,400 crore in FY 2021-22.

This year, a new facility – Modernization of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) – has been added with an allocation of Rs 248 crore.

Rs 200 crore is allocated for special schemes related to women safety while Rs 2,754.16 crore is set aside for modernization of police forces. An amount of Rs 3,659.84 crore has been allocated for improving police infrastructure.

Rs 590.60 crore has been allocated to the Inter-Operational Criminal Justice System while Rs 300 crore has been set aside for modernization of forensic capacity. The budgetary provision for Immigration, Visa and Foreigners Registration and Tracking (IVFRT) has increased from Rs 77 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 175 crore in 2022-23.

The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be allocated ₹35,581.44 crore, which is higher than the previous allocation of ₹30,575 crore, while ₹5958 crore allocated for Ladakh is the same as of 2021-22.

The total allocation for the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) has increased by 12.98% from Rs 90,888.41 crore in 2022-23 to Rs 1,02,686.50 crore.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which guards the border areas with China, gets ₹7,461.28 crore, as against ₹6,965.02 crore it was allocated in 2021-22.
