Union Home Secretary for a meeting with the Chief Secretary of the State in West Bengal

The Union Home Secretary is visiting Kolkata for a meeting with the Chief Secretary of the State to discuss the pending land acquisition matters for border fencing and road projects, construction of border posts and integrated check posts.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla is in West Bengal to discuss pending land acquisition cases for construction of border fences, road projects and other issues with the state chief secretary.

A Home Ministry official said that the Union Home Secretary is visiting Kolkata for a meeting with the state Chief Secretary to discuss the pending land acquisition for border fencing and road projects, construction of border posts and integrated check posts. Matters will be discussed.

West Bengal shares borders with Bangladesh (over 2,200 km), Bhutan (about 183 km) and Nepal (about 100 km).

In May, the Center had accused Mr Bandyopadhyay, principal advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, of not attending the cyclone review meeting organized by the prime minister, which is “indecent for an IAS officer”.

Mr Bandyopadhyay was asked to report to the Centre, but the state government refused to release the top official and instead allowed him to retire on May 31.

Thereafter, he was appointed as the Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister.
