United Samaj Morcha announces tie-up with Chaduni faction for Punjab assembly elections

The United Samaj Morcha on Monday announced an alliance with Gurnam Singh Chaduni-led political outfit for the February 20 Punjab Assembly elections. The Samyukta Samaj Morcha (SSM) also announced 20 more candidates for the assembly elections.

The Samyukta Samaj Morcha (SSM), led by Balbir Singh Rajewal, is a political front of farmer unions, who took part in the movement against the Centre’s agricultural laws. Chaduni is the head of Haryana-based Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (Chaduni) and had earlier formed the Samyukta Sangharsh Party (SSP) to contest the elections. The SSM has given 10 seats to the Chaduni-led party.

This comes a day after Chaduni’s outrage against the SSM for offering only nine seats for the election. SSM’s parliamentary board member Prem Singh Bhangu said an alliance with the SSP has been done, giving the Chaduni-led party 10 seats.

“We are trying to contest the elections on a common symbol and run a joint campaign,” Bhangu said. The party has given tickets to Lakhwinder Singh from Ferozepur city, Kuldeep Singh Wazirpur from Nawanshahr, Balwinder Singh from Batala, Tarun Bawa Jain from Ludhiana (West), Harkirat Singh from Atma Nagar, Gurpreet Singh Kotli from Giddarbaha, Sukhminder Kumar from Malout, Arup Kaur from Malout. . Chamkaur Singh will contest from Bhucho, Sarabjit Singh from Dhuri, Mora Singh from Ferozepur Rural, Satnam Singh from Raja Sansi, Surinder Singh from Jalalabad, Amarjit Singh from Man Sunam, Bhagwant Singh from Bhadaur, Abhikarn Singh from Barnala, Gurnam Singh from Bikhi Mansa . SSM had earlier announced 10 candidates. Rachpal Singh, a farmer leader of the Chaduni faction, said they would soon decide their candidates for the 10 assembly seats of Samana, Ajnala, Nabha, Fatehgarh Sahib, Bholath, Gurdaspur, Sangrur, Shahkot, Dakha and Dirba.

Polling for 117 assembly seats in Punjab is to be held on February 20 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.
