University canceled exam after repetition of question paper

Kozhikode

Calicut University has canceled a common course exam for second semester undergraduate students (2019 and 2020 batches) after it was reportedly revealed that the previous year question paper was distributed this year as well.

In the preliminary investigation, lapses have been found on the part of the person preparing the question paper.

According to an order issued by Controller of Examinations DP Godwin Samraj on April 12, ‘Writing for Academic and Professional Success’ of the second semester of General Course English 2A 03: BA, BSc, and Allied Programs (2019 and 2020 Admissions) will be conducted regularly. The Supplementary and Correctional Sections held on 4th March were cancelled. Various special examinations in the grip of COVID-19 of second semester BA, BSc and allied programs (admission in 2019 alone) in regular stream have also been cancelled. There will be a re-examination on April 25.

University Senate member KV Arun, in a letter to Vice-Chancellor MK Jayaraj, said the cancellation was unexpected. Thousands of students had fallen victim to the irresponsible act of the officials who prepared and distributed the question papers. The university will have to bear the additional financial burden for re-examination. Mr Arun demanded an internal inquiry to find out who was at fault first, the person who prepared the question papers or the officials who sent them. He said that the inquiry report should be made public and appropriate action should be taken against the erring ones.

Meanwhile, Mr. Samraj told Hindu This clarification was sought from the person who set the question paper. “The explanation will be examined and a report will be placed before the syndicate. Only the Syndicate has the right to recommend action against the offender.”
