Mangaluru: Principal of University College, humpankattahas issued show cause notices to three Muslim girl students for holding a press conference and condemning the college’s decision to ban the hijab.
Others, including three Muslim girl students, protested the ban on hijab at the University College in a press conference here on Friday and demanded that the rule be withdrawn at the earliest.
college principal Anasuya Rai told TOI, that Gaussia And two other girls had a press conference during class hours. He said that the students are also not going to the classes. Anasuya said Gaussia was given notice in person on Monday, while two other girls who are not attending classes have been sent notices by post.
“They have to reply within three days after getting the notice. Based on their reply, we will take action.” The notice states that the students have hurt the reputation of the college by making statements against the college and its principal.
The principal said that out of 44 Muslim girl students, 25 girls are taking off their hijab and attending classes. The rest have been absent since the ban on wearing hijab in college. “We will contact the rest of the absentees, explaining to them how their academic year will be at stake due to lack of attendance,” Anasuya said.
