The Department of Social Work, University of Pondicherry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE), Government of India, has launched the ‘Drug Free Puducherry District’ project, a community based project under the Drug Free India Campaign of the Ministry. As part of the project, two workshops are planned on May 5 and 6 to train aspiring faculty members from Pondicherry University and its affiliated colleges on ‘Prevention of substance abuse among youth’, R. The primary objective is to make the university and college authorities, principals and teachers aware of the various aspects of drug use and its impact on the lives of the students; To train faculty members in motivation enhancement counseling, psychosocial support and family education to identify and counsel at-risk students.
The project will also create student social support platforms with faculty advisors to prevent drug use and serve as role models for positive behavior change.
