Unknown people poisoned nine stray dogs in Bengaluru

Hulimavu police are on the lookout for unidentified men who poisoned nine stray dogs, including a female dog and her four puppies, near Shantiniketan Layout in Arkere on Thursday, and a kitten died. Activists rescued four of them, who fell ill after consuming the poisonous food and are now undergoing treatment at a veterinary hospital.

Based on the complaint of Rajkumar MJ, the police on Friday registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and a search is on for the accused. The incident came to light when one of the feeders noticed that the dogs had not come to collect their feed. She, with the help of other animal activists, found them motionless inside a concrete drainage pipe.

Activists initially suspected it was a snakebite incident, but later found four more strays in a semi-conscious state and took them to a nearby veterinary hospital where doctors treated them.

On Saturday, doctors conducted the postmortem of the dead animals at Chamarajpet Veterinary Hospital, while other dogs are recovering. Hulimavu police are now trying to ascertain the details of the suspects who are behind poisoning the stray.
