LUCKNOW: With the ruling BJP and major opposition Samajwadi Party joining claims and counter-claims at the crime scene in UP under their respective regimes, senior BJP chief election strategist Amit Shah has called on former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to debate the issue. Yadav has been challenged recently. It seems to have hit the right wire. Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday announced that he is ready for any challenge.
The SP chief announced on Twitter on Sunday afternoon that he was ready for any challenge. “We are now ready for every challenge… Aise ko taiyaari nahi gaadiye… Woh Jagan Batayein, Samay Bataayein (I am ready for every challenge now… No preparation will be required to speak the truth) .. tell me about the place and time),” tweeted Akhilesh.
The former UP CM’s tweet is being seen in the light of Amit Shah’s recent visit to Muzaffarnagar, where while addressing ‘Mattata Samvad’ (interaction with voters) on Saturday, he attacked Akhilesh saying that the SP should There is no shame in making false claims and statements. lie so fluently that some may take it as truth. This was in the context of allegations of poor law and order situation in UP under the Yogi regime of Akhilesh. Shah had said, “…Hatmat ho toh apna ke ke ek time ke press karte karne… (If he has guts, he should address a press conference with his governance figures).”
The Union Home Minister dismissed Akhilesh’s allegation as a “lie” and claimed that the crime figures tell otherwise. Amit Shah said, “Incidents of dacoity and dacoity have come down by 70 and 69.3% respectively in the last five years. The number of murders has come down by 30%.” “We are in this election after fulfilling more than 95% of the promises made in our last election manifesto,” Shah said.
Akhilesh also attacked the ruling BJP for fielding candidates with criminal records. He said: “The BJP is all set to create a century of fielding candidates with criminal background. They have given tickets to 99 candidates so far and are about to cross the 100 mark.” This was in response to allegations leveled by BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, of fielding SP candidates with extensive criminal history.
BJP leaders have earlier named SP’s Kairana candidate Nahid Hasan and Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam to claim that several party candidates are either in jail or recently released on bail.
Polling for the first phase of 2022 assembly elections is on February 10 in 58 assembly constituencies spread over 11 districts.
