Uttar Pradesh government will conduct survey of unrecognized people madrasas in the state To collect information about the number of teachers, syllabus and infrastructure available there.

“The survey will start soon,” the minister said.

During the survey, information was collected about the name of the madrasa and the name of the institution running it, whether it is running in a private or rented building, the number of students studying there and the facilities of drinking water, toilets, furniture and electricity supply. He said that information about the number of teachers in the madrasa, its curriculum, source of income and its association with any non-governmental organization (NGO) would also be collected.

Asked whether the state government would start the process of recognizing new madrassas after this survey, the minister said that at present the government’s objective is to collect information only about unrecognized madrassas.

Government grants

It is noteworthy that at present there are a total of 16,461 madrasas in Uttar Pradesh, out of which 560 are given government grants. New madrasas have not been included in the grant list for the last six years in the state.

The minister said that according to the order issued on Wednesday, in the absence of any member of the disputed management committee or committee in madrasas, the madrassa principal and district minority welfare officer will be able to make appointments from the deceased dependent quota.

Earlier, if there was any problem in the managing committee, then the dependent of the deceased had to face difficulty in getting the job.

Ansari said that based on the application of teachers and non-teaching staff of aided madrasas, they can now be transferred with the consent of the managers of the madrasas concerned and with the approval of the registrar of the state madrassa education council.

He said that women employees working in madrasas will also get maternity leave and child care leave as per rules.

Meanwhile, Diwan Saheb Zaman, general secretary of the teachers’ union Madaris Arabiya, welcomed the state government’s decision and said it would benefit madrassa teachers and non-teaching staff.
