UP govt appoints task force to upgrade ITI courses, launch new training programs

The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed a special task force to introduce new courses in the state’s polytechnic colleges and industrial training institutes. New courses, syllabus have been asked to be finalized and approved within a month. Additionally, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to discontinue non-essential ITI courses and start new ones instead of facing the market demand.

The new courses will be designed keeping in mind the demands of the industry and the new up-gradation of technologies present in the market. According to a report in Live Hindustan, the task force will work on the recommendation of a committee constituted on the subject of technical education up-gradation and up-skilling in the Department of Technical Education and Vocational Education and Skill Development.

According to a report in Hindi daily Hindustan, the special task force will be headed by the principal secretary, technical education and vocational education and skill development departments.

The members of the task force include the Director of Skill Development Mission, Special Secretary Technical Education, Director Training and Employment, and Director Technical Education. Special Secretary Vocational Education and Skill Development Department has been appointed as Member Secretary of the Task Force.

It will also consist of two members to be nominated by the Vice-Chancellors of AKTU and MMTU. Five representatives of industries and institutions working in the field of technical education and training will also be made members.

The committees will submit their reports to the task force in three weeks, after which a final decision on the proposed courses will be taken. Thereafter, the task force will also issue approvals regarding availability of desired infrastructure such as construction, machines and equipment, and trainers for running the courses.

This decision is likely to give a big boost to industrial training and education in the state. The market orientation of the courses will allow colleges to bridge the gap between demand and supply of industrial human resources.
