UP police constable shot himself with service weapon

Hapur, UP:

A constable of the Uttar Pradesh Police, posted in the police lines, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon in Hapur in the early hours of Saturday, officials said.

Police officials said 25-year-old constable Ankit Kumar, a resident of Bijnor district, was transferred from Moradabad to Hapur police lines in February.

Hapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Verma said Kumar committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon at 4 am.

The reason behind his taking such a big step is yet to be known. The body has been sent for postmortem and the matter is being probed, he said.
