UPSEB directs officials to destroy Class 10, 12 projects, withdraw practical after receiving flak

Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (UPSEB) Issued an order on January 7 asking its district schools inspector to destroy the projects and practical files of class 10 and 12 students who took the exam in 2021. This order was issued from the office of Additional Director, Prayagraj Zone of UPSEB. The order soon went viral on social media and drew a lot of criticism from online users.

The online uproar eventually forced UPSEB to withdraw its order and the board issued a fresh notice on Monday quashing the previous order to delete the project and practical files of 2021 exam, a leading news daily reported. Vinay Gill, Additional Director Prayagraj Zone, UPSEB said that the order was quashed as several instructions were left out of order.

Separation of practicals and projects before a year of exams is unusual and was a surprise even for a senior UPSEB official. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a senior official told the daily that he had not seen anything like this in at least the past decade.

This decision of the UP Secondary Teachers Association was criticized, whose president RP Mishra advised the government to think twice before passing such an order. Mishra said that there is no provision to destroy the files.

Meanwhile, UPSEB is gearing up to conduct the board exams for class 10 and 12 after the completion of the assembly elections in the state. Starting from February 10, UP’s month-long election schedule will conclude on March 10. The UP board is reportedly planning to conduct the exam after this. While the schedule is not final yet, the exams are expected to be scheduled after March 10.

With the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the board will also take stock of the pandemic situation before finalizing the date. For the last two years, the board exams could not be conducted due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Candidates are promoted to the next class and allotted marks on the basis of their performance in the previous classes and pre-board examinations.
