Landslide victory expected for ruling DMK; BJP party workers are excited to come at number three after two Dravidian big companies.

The ruling DMK is set to register a landslide victory in Tamil Nadu’s southern districts, with its candidates winning most wards of corporations, municipalities and town panchayats for which urban local body elections were held on February 19.

According to officials, the counting of votes, which began at 8 am, was going on in the afternoon under tight security and is likely to end by late evening.

new corporation

Apart from winning the majority of wards in corporations including Madurai, Dindigul, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi, the DMK, with the support of its alliance partners, also registered its first victory in newly upgraded Sivakasi and Nagercoil corporations.

According to a Thoothukudi Corporation official, in almost every corporation, candidates of the ruling party appeared in favor of victory and in Thoothukudi, the DMK and allies have won 50 out of 60 wards.

Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats

In 10 districts of southern Tamil Nadu, the DMK and its allies – Congress, VCK, MDMK, CPI and CPI(M) and others – have wrested municipalities from their political rival AIADMK.

The Theni district, which was considered the fort of the AIADMK, was also under the control of the DMK. This was the DMK’s way in several other districts like Virudhunagar, where the ruling has wiped out all five municipalities, including Srivilliputtur and Sattur.

Not only does Dindigul district seem to be going in favor of the DMK, but the majority of the party’s candidates also garnered the highest number of votes – in several wards where, barring AIADMK, all other candidates were likely to lose. their deposit. Kodaikanal, Oddanchatram and Palani municipalities were going in favor of the DMK.

Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga

Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga districts also boosted the DMK’s enthusiasm by registering victories including distressed fishermen’s settlements. In fact, Paramakudi Municipality has been with AIADMK since time immemorial and now it has gone through the DMK route.

At the southern tip, the DMK had a real chance to celebrate in Kanyakumari district as the party lost to the BJP in the assembly elections. The victory means the return of party leaders, especially district secretary and former minister Suresh Rajan.

Thoothukudi

In Thoothukudi district too, the DMK made its way with the presence of local MP Kanimozhi and two ministers Geeta Jeevan and Anita Radhakrishnan. Similarly, industries minister Thangam Thennarasu’s hometown at Mallankinaru in Virudhunagar district also barged into the DMK candidates’ house.

In short, apart from winning one or two wards in municipalities and nagar panchayats in the southern districts, the AIADMK has lost disastrously to its rival DMK.

Though the BJP has managed to register a victory similar to that of the AIADMK, the party’s men had left the Dravidian chiefs in the first two places to reach number three.

Results for the southern districts showed that voters rejected the names Tamilar Katchi (NTK), Makkal Neeti Maiyam (MNM) and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK).
