US Cafe Sues Customer For Paying $3,000 Tip To Waitress And Then Asking It Back: Report

The customer claimed that the tip was part of a social media movement.

A restaurant in Pennsylvania, United States is suing a diner for over $3,000 (Rs 2.40 lakh). This is due to the fact that the customer initially left an important tip for a waitress working in the restaurant but later asked for a refund.

A waitress named Mariana Lambert was thrilled to receive a several thousand dollar tip from a customer named Eric Smith for her work at Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe. The incident happened in June, as reported CNN,

Managers were initially skeptical, but the credit card transaction was successful. Mr Smith said a social media campaign titled ‘Tips for Jesus’ inspired him to leave a generous tip. It really meant a lot to Ms Lambert, she said. Despite being deeply affected, she was still in disbelief.

However, his happiness did not last long as Mr Smith challenged the tip he had charged with his credit card issuer.

When they learned of the dispute with the credit company, the restaurant assumed it was a miscommunication as Ms. Lambert had received a large sum of money by that time.

Restaurant manager Zachary Jacobson made several attempts to contact Mr. Smith via Facebook, but was unsuccessful. As a result, the manager filed charges in the magistrate’s office, describing the entire incident as “serious”.

At Alfredo’s cafe, Mr. Jacobson is expected to win the court battle and not be asked to pay back the $3,000.

according to the report New York Post, The manager of Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe said, “Unfortunately, we had to file charges through the magistrate’s office because we’re out of this money at the moment. And he told us to sue him, so that’s what we’re going to do.” Going in the end, I guess. I hope he owns up to his actions and comes forward and pays for it, because if that was the end result you shouldn’t have done it.”
