Cameron Norie entered clinical show on Tuesday, August 30 and placed the starting marker at the US Open 2022. The 7th seed and British No. 1 defeated Benoit Pair 6-0, 7-6(1), 6-0. One-sided first round match in New York to make it to the second round of men’s singles.

It was a strange outing for Benoit Paire as he suffered a loss in the first set but struggled to force a tie-breaker in the second set. Play was briefly halted due to inclement weather conditions, after which Pyre had a chance to serve for the set, taking a 5–3 lead.

But the experienced players could not take advantage of this and broke in the next game and got out in a one-sided tiebreak.

Payer lost the first set in 18 minutes and the third set was even worse for the Frenchman as it lasted only 15 minutes.

Nori was knocked out of the final Grand Slam of the year in the first round last year and never made it past the third round.

However, he has enjoyed success on American hardcourts, including victory at Indian Wells in 2021 and claiming the Delray Beach title in February.

Nori, who improved his win-loss record for the year to 42-19, will next face Portuguese Joo Sousa or American Mackenzie McDonald in the second round.

Isner, Sablanka Progress

Meanwhile, local star John Isner put on a stellar performance to beat Federico Delbonis 6-3, 6-1, 7-5 in his first round match in New York on Tuesday.

However, 16th seed Jelena Ostapenko lost three games (3-6, 6-3, 4-6) to world number 39 Qinwen Zheng of China.

Such was no trouble for sixth seed Anya Sabalenka, who needed just one hour and 28 minutes to win her first round women’s singles match against USA’s Katherine Harrison 6-1, 6-3.
