US Open 2022: Former champion Andy Murray comes up with a brilliant fight, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Matteo Berrettini in the third round of men’s singles. Murray lost to Italy 4-6, 4-6, 7-6(1), 3-6 in New York on Friday.

2012 champion Andy Murray’s bid to make a Grand Slam fourth round return for the first time since Wimbledon in 2017 as he lost to 16th seed Matteo Berrettini in the men’s singles third round at the US Open 2022. 3-time Grand Slam champion Murray came up with a scintillating fight, but it wasn’t enough as a 2019 finalist, Berrettini beat Scott 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-3 .

Andy Murray, who said he was feeling good about his fitness after a very long time, showed that he still had a lot left in his tank in a match that lasted 3 hours and 47 minutes.

Berrettini was able to wrap up the first two sets, but in the third set, his famous forehand failed to fire as unforced errors surfaced. Murray upped his game and kept himself in the game, forcing a tie-breaker. Berrettini sent a fast-moving forehand winner to break Murray’s serve early in the tie-breaker, but Murray fizzled with his intensity.

Murray started the fourth set with an early break but he broke straight. The former world No 1 showed clear signs of despair as his intensity waned.

Murray, who competed in three Grand Slams for the first time since 2017, showed signs of a return to form at various stages of his season. Scott, considering retirement after undergoing two hip surgeries, should only take confidence from his run in New York.

It was his fourth consecutive round for Matteo Berrettini, who has had his share of injury issues. after getting Missed Wimbledon due to Kovid-19 After a stellar performance on the grass court, Berrettini will be keen to use his form to go deeper into the tournament.
