Usha Mohandas elected President of Kerala Congress (B)

This is the first meeting of the party’s state committee after the death of former president and one of the founders of the United Kerala Congress, Balakrishna Pillai, in May 2021.

The Kerala Congress (B) unanimously elected Usha Mohandas as its president at the party’s state committee meeting here on Tuesday. Party working president and former MLA MV Mani said Ms Usha was elected as the president. Party presidents of 10 districts and party workers and leaders of all 14 districts participated in the meeting. However, party presidents from Wayanad and Malappuram did not attend.

Although the party’s constitution calls for a meeting of the state committee within six months after the president’s post becomes vacant, the meeting did not take place for nearly seven months, said party vice-president Paul Joseph.

Lives with LDF

Mr Mani said the Left Democratic Front (LDF), of which the Kerala Congress (B) is now a part, would welcome the election of the president, while Mr Pillai’s son KB Ganesh Kumar would continue in his post. A member of the State Legislature.

Mr Mani also denied joining the United Democratic Front (UDF) of the Kerala Congress (B). He said the party had worked hard for the victory of the LDF in the last elections and would stand firmly with the front.

He also said that though Mr. Ganesh Kumar was invited to attend the meeting in Kochi, he was not present.
