On the issue of proposed amendments to the IAS (Cadre) Rules, 1954, Mr. Adhikari supported the Centre’s move. He cited the example of former West Bengal chief secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, against whom the Center had taken disciplinary action.

Ms Banerjee had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to withdraw the decision. He said that changes in the rules of central deputation of IAS officers will affect the administration of the states. He expressed strong objection to the proposed amendment. He alleged that it was against the spirit of cooperative federalism.
