Uttar Pradesh elections: All parties want elections to be held on time: Election Commission

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra today said that the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections will be held on time next year. He said that the final voter list of Uttar Pradesh will be released on January 5.

The Election Commission delegation is on a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh. Assembly elections in the state are to be held next year.

He said that the representatives of all the political parties held a meeting and asked the Election Commission to conduct the elections on time following all the COVID-19 protocols. The CEC said that the staff posted at polling stations across the state would be thoroughly vaccinated.

VVPATs will be installed at all polling stations. The CEC said that to ensure transparency in the election process, the facility of live webcasting will be available at about one lakh polling stations.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra, when asked about the big political rallies during COVID19, said, “We have discussed the issue with the Health Secretary here. When the election will be announced, we will take this into consideration considering the situation.” Will issue directions specifically on the issue.”

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra said on the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, “Voting will be held from 8 am to 6 pm on the date of polling during the assembly elections.”

In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, 61 per cent voter turnout was recorded. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the voter turnout in UP was 59 per cent. It is a matter of concern as to why the polling percentage is low in a state where political awareness is high among the people.

The CEC said that people above 80 years of age, persons with disabilities and COVID-affected people who are unable to come to the polling booth, the Election Commission will reach their doorsteps to vote.

In the 2017 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 312 seats out of the 403-seat Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) won 47 seats, the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) won 19 seats, and the Congress. Could only manage to win. seven seats. Rest of the seats were occupied by other candidates.
