Uttarakhand government will increase college seats after the demand of students, asks education department to prepare a plan

After thousands of students in Uttarakhand were not able to get admission in colleges due to lack of university seats, the state government agreed to increase the undergraduate seats in several colleges and universities. The Uttarakhand government has also sought a proposal from the colleges to conduct evening classes to deal with the seat crunch.

The state government, in a meeting on Tuesday, said that they do not want any student to be deprived of higher education. Uttarakhand Higher Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said that no student will be denied admission in government colleges and universities of the state.

Rawat directed the officials of the Higher Education Department to prepare a proposal to increase or decrease the admission seats for the students as per the requirement. He also urged the concerned officials to complete the various construction activities without any delay and submit the Utilization Certificate (UC).

This year, the Uttarakhand government, like most states, canceled the board exams for class 12 students in view of the second wave of COVID-19. The results were declared on the basis of an alternative evaluation scheme. As the students were assessed on the basis of their performance in the class and previous year’s examination, the pass percentage was 90 per cent.
