Rossi has now finalized an agreement with the Belgian team to participate in the 10-round Fantec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Championship.
Valentino Rossi will embark on a new career in sports car racing this year, competing with leading Audi squad team WRT in the full FanTech GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Seasons. The nine-time Grand Prix motorcycle world champion tightened up his gear at the conclusion of the 2021 campaign and immediately set his eyes on a new challenge in four-wheel competition.
Rossi has now finalized an agreement with the Belgian team to participate in the 10-round Fantec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS Championship. His car will be the coveted number 46 and he will fight for overall honors in both the Endurance Cup and the Sprint Cup alongside the official Audi Sport drivers.
Rossi said, “I am delighted to join Team WRT for a full-fledged FanTech GT World Challenge Europe powered by the AWS program. Everyone knows I have always been a great car racing fan and I have always been interested in racing on four wheels. Been interested. MotoGP career will be over.”
By joining Team WRT, Rossi has associated himself with the most successful operation in the Fantec GT World Challenge Europe, powered by AWS history. The Audi squad has won 28 overall teams and drivers’ titles since 2011, including five out of a possible six final stints. Belgium’s outfit in the Sprint Cup has been particularly impressive and TotalEnergies is also a perennial contender for victory at 24 Hours Spa.

Although the 2022 AWS-powered Fantech GT World Challenge represents a new beginning in Europe, Rossi is not a newcomer to the series, having contested a pair of endurance races at Monza and the Nürburgring during the 2012 season. He will begin his latest effort by joining Team WRT during the official testing days at Circuit Paul Ricard on March 7–8.
