Valmiki Nagar residents want better capacity pumping stations

Residents of Valmiki Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur want the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) to increase the pumping capacity of the sewage pumping station at the end of Valmiki Nagar Second Seward Road.

Further, he has requested the CMWSSB to rectify the flaws in the sewage pipes along Balkrishna Road. Manholes are overflowing on Balkrishna Road as sewage is not able to enter the pumping station. Sewage seeps into rainwater harvesting wells on the road and contaminates groundwater. This has forced a section of residents to buy water in cans from private suppliers. Resident S. Saravanan says, “Using this road is annoying as sewage is blocked. In addition, sewage from Balakrishna Road enters a playground at Thiruvalluvar Nagar 16th Cross Street. Residents say that they are facing this problem since last many years and CMWSSB did not get any response to their many complaints.
