video | Amit Shah said the historical scepter, ‘Sengol’, will be kept in the new Parliament

Union Home Minister Amit Shah today said that the inauguration of the new Parliament House this Sunday will also see Prime Minister Narendra Modi installing a historic golden scepter near the speaker’s seat. The scepter, Mr Shah said, was handed over to Jawaharlal Nehru, the country’s first prime minister, to mark the transfer of power from the British to the Indians. The Home Minister said that this scepter is called “sengol” – derived from the Tamil word “semmai”, which means “righteousness”.
