In another major setback to Congress in Madhya Pradesh, a party MLA switched to BJP just 6 days before the by-election in the Lok Sabha constituency that falls under his assembly seat. In Madhya Pradesh, first time Congress MLA from Barwaha seat in Khargone district Sachin Birla joined the ruling BJP at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s rally in Bedia village on Sunday. He is the 27th sitting Congress MLA to join the ruling party in the state since the fall of the Kamal Nath-led government following the resignation of 22 of its MLAs in March 2020.
