Video: Couple fell into sea after breaking rope while parasailing in Diu

A couple from Gujarat were stunned after parasailing took a dire turn in Diu.

Ajit Kathad says that he and his wife were shocked after the rope of their parachute broke while parasailing off the coast of Diu. This intermittent accident was caught in the video which is being widely shared on social media. According to times of IndiaAjit Kathad, 30, and his wife Sarla Kathad, 31, were parasailing at Nagoa beach in Diu on Sunday when the rope of their parachute broke, injuring them towards the sea.

The Gujarat couple, who went on holiday to Diu, were lucky to survive without any injuries. He was wearing a life jacket and was soon rescued by lifeguards stationed on the beach.

Heartbreaking footage shows that about a minute into the couple’s parasailing ride, the rope connecting their parachute to a powerboat snapped, leaving them unharmed.

Ajit Kathad’s elder brother Rakesh, who was on the powerboat, was heard screaming as the couple fell into the sea. “I was recording video and I didn’t know what to do when the rope broke,” he said later. “I saw my brother and sister-in-law fall from a great height, and I’ve never felt so helpless as I did at the time.”

The couple was eventually rescued by lifeguards from Palms Adventure and Motorsports, the private firm that runs the parasailing service.

Rakesh later told reporters that he had told the operators that the parachute rope had become shabby and worn out. However, he was assured that nothing would happen and the damaged part of the rope would not even come in the air.

Meanwhile, the owner of Palms Adventure and Motorsports blamed the accident on strong winds. Mohan Laxman told The Times of India, “This is the first time that such an incident has happened in the last three years as strong winds were blowing on Sunday.” He said that his company had a well-trained staff for the rescue operations.

Ajit Kathad and his family, however, accused the parasailing service of negligence.

“As we reached the maximum altitude, after the rope broke, the parachute started moving from side to side because we didn’t know how to control it. Seconds later, we fell into the sea. While we owe our thanks kept swimming. Life jacket, my wife was in a state of shock and could not speak for a few minutes,” said Ajit Kathad, describing his ordeal Indian Express,

“The response of the service operator was very irresponsible. They said we were saved and nothing happened and no one died,” he said.

The couple went to the police station to file a complaint but eventually returned without any complaint. Mr. Kathad, a health worker from Junagadh’s Mangrol taluka, said, “I had gone to the police station with the intention of registering a complaint. But returned without registering a complaint as my family members were still in shock.”
