Video: Former intelligence officer, 82, hit by unnumbered car in Karnataka

RK Kulkarni retired 23 years ago

Mysore:

A former Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer was killed after he was hit by a car in Karnataka’s Mysuru on Friday, in what police say is a planned murder.

RK Kulkarni was walking on the Manasagangotri campus of Mysore University on Friday evening when a car rammed him from the front, officials said, adding that the vehicle did not have a number plate.

Officials said the police initially believed it was a hit-and-miss case, but after scanning the CCTV footage, the accident appeared to be a deliberate one.

The video clip shows a speeding car heading towards the 82-year-old man who was on his regular walk. The car driver then hit him and fled from the spot.

Mysore Police Commissioner Chandragupta said, “After investigation, we came to the conclusion that it was not an accident but a planned murder.”

“It was a narrow lane lined with four-wheelers. It seems that the accused was following Mr. Kulkarni,” an officer said.

Police said that three teams have been formed to trace the accused and investigation is on to ascertain the motive behind the murder.

Kulkarni retired 23 years ago after serving in the Intelligence Bureau for more than three decades.
