Three earthquakes occurred in Turkey and Syria, causing extensive damage to structures and over 2,600 reported deaths. Aftershocks of 7.8 magnitude were felt in the morning. The effect of this disaster is being seen in many cities of Turkey. The earthquake is also wreaking havoc in areas inhabited by people fleeing Syria’s civil war and other conflicts. In Turkey’s Hatay province, the airport’s only runway has been torn down and is fully functional. A video is becoming increasingly viral on social media in which it can be seen that the tarmac has been split into two. All have been canceled due to the earthquake at the airport.

The country’s president said Monday’s earthquake was Turkey’s worst disaster in decades. According to seismologists, today’s first earthquake was one of the biggest ever recorded in the country. BBC A second earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 occurred 12 hours later, with its epicenter in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras province, according to the agency.

Raed Ahmed, head of Syria’s National Earthquake Center, said it was the biggest earthquake in history. State media and medical sources said at least 783 people were reported killed in rebel and government-held areas of Syria.
