Video: Hilda Effiong Bassi sets Guinness World Record for longest cooking marathon

Hilda Bachie cooked in a makeshift kitchen for four days.

There’s a new record holder for the longest cooking marathon Guinness World Records (GWR), and it’s a Nigerian chef named Hilda Effiong Bassey.

According to Guinness World Records, Hilda, better known as Hilda Bassey on social media, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes.

Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total as she mistakenly took extra minutes for her rest in the attempt.

The 26-year-old Nigerian chef started on Thursday, May 11, and continued through Monday, May 15, cooking more than 100 dishes during his four-day kitchen stint.

Guinness World Records shared a video of the incident on its YouTube platform, which was viewed several thousand times within six hours. Many users thank the record keeping organization for the view.

“Great job, Guinness World Records, for sharing the video on Hilda Becky’s longest cooking marathon! It was very impressive to see her determination and skill in trying to break the record. Even a small mistake on the rest break Even with this, Hilda has still achieved an amazing feat and deserves her place in the record books. Thank you, Guinness World Records, for showcasing incredible talents like Hilda and inspiring us to push our limits. We appreciate your Can’t wait to see more awesome records on the amazing YouTube channel!,” wrote one user.

The previous record, which was set by Lata Tandon (India) in 2019, was 87 hours 45 minutes.

Hilda envisions this record as an effort to “put Nigerian cuisine on the map” and to “inspire young African women to chase their dreams”.

“I decided to break this record as well to really push my limits and test my abilities,” he added.
