Video: Indigo aircraft engine fire in Delhi ahead of take-off

An IndiGo aircraft was landed at the Delhi airport after its engine caught fire on Friday night, seconds before its take-off for Bengaluru.

Delhi Police said that all passengers and crew on board IndiGo flight 6E-2131 are safe. There were 184 people on board the Airbus A-320 aircraft.

The incident happened around 9:45 pm and the passengers were not immediately evacuated. The passengers disembarked after 11 pm and boarded another flight around midnight.

One of the passengers, Priyanka Kumar, posted a video of the incident on Twitter, in which an engine caught fire and sparks were seen coming out.

The video indicated that the fire was extinguished within moments. NDTV has also learned that the pilots on board the aircraft did not discharge the fire extinguishers in the right engine of the aircraft.

“The flight would have taken off in five to seven seconds. Suddenly, I saw a massive spark emanating from the wings, and it turned into a huge fire. And the plane was immediately grounded. The pilot informed us that there was some fault in the engine. Was. , ” Priyanka Kumar told NDTV over phone,

“We are still in the plane. The situation is under control. The fire brigade arrived. The plane has been moved to the parking lot. IndiGo is arranging another plane for us,” Kumar said at around 11 pm.

He said, “Initially there was panic, but the crew made us feel comfortable. We were given water. There were a lot of elderly and children around… Everyone is safe, there was no shock,” he said.

In a statement, IndiGo said, “Aircraft 6E2131 flying from Delhi to Bangalore experienced an engine stall during the take-off roll. The take-off was aborted, and the aircraft returned safely to the bay. “

“All passengers are being accommodated in alternate aircraft. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to the passengers,” he said.
