video | Last year’s audit report raised serious concern on rail safety

While Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav today said the “root cause” of the horrific triple train collision in Odisha’s Balasore, which claimed 288 lives and injured over 1,000, has been identified and a probe will be launched soon. In the report it will be revealed, critics have pointed to an audit report of the railways from September last year, which flagged lapses in rail safety. The accident was caused by a change in “electronic interlocking”, Mr Vaishnav has said. The Railway Board has also explained in detail the sequence of events that led to the accident.
