Video: Passengers in London smash their way out of a Tube train after a fire alert

Commuters in the United Kingdom make their way onto a tube train in South London following a fire warning on Friday evening, the day before the coronation of King Charles III. According to BBCThe incident took place at Clapham Common station. A viral video on social media shows a man smashing a window of a train with a hammer to allow passengers trapped inside to get out.

One Twitter user shared the clip, writing: “London Underground catches fire before Charles III’s coronation. People knock on train windows in panic, not to die, breathing in acrid smoke.”

The London Fire Brigade said crews arrived at the scene, but found no evidence of a fire. It said around 500 people had already got off the train before crews from Battersea, Tooting and Brixton arrived at the scene.

A passenger reported, “The train suddenly stopped at the station with half the bogies and there was no movement or announcement for several minutes. Then the lights went out and we could hear shouting at the back.” PA News Agency.

“Finally the driver asked us to walk to the back of the train and we stepped out through a set of open doors to a view of shattered windows on the platform, where other passengers had clearly panicked. There was a strong smell of burning and broken windows,” he said.

The London Fire Brigade said: “An investigation is ongoing but the smoke is believed to have originated from the train’s brakes.” Guardian,
