Xi Jinping will lead China for a third term in power with a new top team, making him the most powerful Chinese leader since party founder Mao Zedong. The people he chose for his standing committee are also all individuals rewarded for their loyalty. There is no challenge against him now at the top level of the party. Xi’s predecessor Hu Jintao was taken out at Saturday’s closing ceremony, apparently reluctantly, with state media later saying he was not feeling well.
