The month of Ashadha is the fourth month of the Hindu calendar and this year it is starting from Wednesday, June 15. It will begin on the dark lunar fortnight, from the Pratipada of Krishna Paksha according to the Hindu calendar, and will end on Wednesday, July. 13. It is considered a holy month as many important fasts and festivals are celebrated in this month.

Important days in the month of Ashadha include Devshayani Ekadashi, Yogini Ekadashi, Mithun Sankranti, Sankashti Chaturthi, Amavasya, Poornima, Pradosh Vrat, Guru Purnima, Jagannath Rath Yatra and Gupt Navratri.

According to Hindu epics, Lord Vishnu goes into yoga nidra during this period and devotees who observe fast are blessed by Lord Vishnu. Chaturmas starts from this month and during this period of four months all the deities go into shayan (sleep). Hence, no auspicious work is performed during Chaturmasya as per Hindu traditions.
