Navi Mumbai: Former Member of Legislative Council Vinayak Mete He died on Sunday at around 5.30 am on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway after his SUV met with an accident about 6 km from the Palaspe traffic outpost near Bhatan tunnel in Panvel taluka.
Mete with his bodyguard and driver was on his way to a meeting from Beed to Mumbai in his Ford Endeavor SUV.
PSI Ganesh Burkul of Palaspe Traffic Unit said Vinayak Mete was sitting next to his driver Kadam, who crashed while overtaking from the right side from an unknown vehicle ahead. The left side of the SUV was severely damaged in the accident and I suffered serious injuries. His bodyguard, constable Dhoble and driver Kadam were also injured. Constable Dhoble got trapped in the damaged SUV and was pulled out by the Highway Police. Mete, Dhoble and Kadam were taken in an IRB ambulance to MGM Hospital in Kamothe, where they died at around 7 am.
