Jailed Delhi minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday moved a special court to stay the CCTV footage or details of Tihar Jail. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) last week retrieved a footage of a cell in Tihar Jail where Jain is kept, claiming that it was evidence of the minister influencing key witnesses brought to his cell by jail staff. .
On a special request, a pen drive was also given to Jain’s lawyer with the condition that its contents would not be shared. The lawyer was also provided with a copy of the affidavit filed by the agency in which Jain was shown talking to co-accused in his cell.
In what is considered a major security breach inside the high-security Tihar Jail, the ED has been cited as times of India Sources have produced video footage before the trial court along with an affidavit claiming that accused Jain had access to electronic gadgets, besides jail staff allowing other co-accused to enter their jail cells in violation of all norms. The ED alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party leader was leading a lavish life inside Tihar Jail wherein facilities like head massage, foot massage and back massage were being provided to him.
The ED, in its affidavit, said that Jain is being provided home cooked food in jail, which is a clear violation of the court’s order. However, the Tihar Jail authorities have denied these claims.
He said that no one came from outside in Jain’s cell. The administration said that during the morning headcount, all the prisoners present in the ward can talk among themselves. The jail administration said that the co-accused mentioned by the ED are also lodged in the same ward as Satyendar Jain and hence they can talk among themselves.
The Tihar Jail administration also denied allegations that Satyendar Jain had access to any electronic gadget.
