First detected in Wuhan in 2019, the COVID-19 virus is plaguing the world and disrupting lives, as they were alive before the pandemic. Even before the discovery of vaccines, social distancing had to be followed to avoid this disease. In China, however, things have reached a more extreme level. A video that is currently going viral shows what is being touted as the “epidemic prevention revolution”. In the video, a man can be seen lifting the crane, which is a new extreme of social distancing.
“A positive patient was hoisted out of the community by a crane because they did not dare to go in and pick them up, and they did not want the patient’s bacteria to remain on the floor, ensuring the smallest contact area possible,” read. Video caption. This comes as Chinese President Xi Jinping has already declared his zero COVID policy. Lockdown is imposed in cities when a Kovid infection is found under a strict policy. Since being uploaded, the video has garnered nearly 210K views. “The Chinese nation has arrived at the most fun time,” commented one Twitter user. Another person wrote, “So smart, the modernization of Chinese style will surely come true.”
Meanwhile, earlier, residents of Shanghai could be heard shouting from the balconies of their apartments in horrific videos that surfaced on social media. According to The Sun, the city has been under strict lockdown on April 5, with food supplies reportedly running low. According to a report in The Daily Beast, with the Chinese government abandoning rations and operating limited delivery services, all 25 million people in the city have been barred from stepping out of their homes, even for food. Author and radio host Patrick Madrid shared a clip on Twitter, writing, “What the?? This video was taken yesterday in Shanghai, China by the father of a close friend of mine. She confirmed its authenticity: After a week of total lockdown people are screaming out of their windows, not leaving your apartment for whatever reason. News18 could not independently establish the veracity of the video.
Epidemiologist and health economist Eric Feigl-Ding also shared the clip, writing, “Shanghai residents screaming from high-rise apartments after 7 days straight of the city’s lockdown. The narrator worries that there will be bigger problems. (In Shanghainese dialect – he predicts people won’t last long – he means tragedy).” The dystopic quality of the video shocked social media users.
