Virat Kohli birthday: Old NDTV video showing how cricketer played crucial match after father’s death goes viral

As star cricketer Virat Kohli turned 34 today, players across the world took to social media to wish the batsman. His fans and cricket lovers are celebrating this day with great pomp. All the things related to Kohli are trending on his big day. An old NDTV news on Virat Kohli’s innings in 2006 is also going viral on the internet today.

A boy named Virat Kohli Delhi bats at the Kotla after losing his father, Delhi won the match Drawn, he got 50, needless to say the man went on to become the most favorite cricketer in Indian history.”

In the early hours of December 19, 2006, Virat Kohli’s father, Mr. Prem Kohli, died of a heart attack at the age of 54. At the same time, Kohli was playing a Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka. He was batting overnight scoring 40 runs. Surprising his teammates, Kohli bounced back and scored 90 runs to save Delhi’s team from follow-on. He was also awarded ‘Man of the Match’.

The video also shows former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley meeting him at the then Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. In the same news report, his teammates have mentioned that Kohli did not talk much in between taking runs. One of the players said, “He was very close to his father and it (his death) hurt him a lot.”

It should be noted that relatives and neighbors were visiting the victim’s family, while Kohli was scoring runs for his team on the pitch, proving, nevertheless, the “team above all”. According to the report, he reached just in time for the cremation of the father.

Virat Kohli’s brother Vikas Kohli also told how the elders of the family asked the cricketer not to go for the match. But then the family agreed. “He took the decision and we told him that if you have to go, you must go,” said Mr. Vikas.

Virat Kohli is currently in Australia for the current T20 World Cup. The batsman is back in his form as he has scored three half-centuries in the four matches he has played in the cup. He was also the star player of Team India in the Asia Cup held in September this year.
