Virat Kohli breaks drought, hits 28th Test century after 1,205 days

After making a strong comeback in all other formats, Virat Kohli on Sunday ended a long wait of 1,205 days as he brought up his Test hundred against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli’s 28th Test century came at a time when India were chasing a big score in a crucial match.

Indian cricket fans waited for almost 41 innings to see another century from the star. Kohli’s The last Test century was against Bangladesh in November 2019.

When Kohli completed a single against Nathan Lyon and raised his bat, Ravi Shastri said on commentary, “The 600kg gorilla got off his back.” Kohli removed his helmet, smiled, and heaved a sigh of relief to the standing ovation from the stadium crowd.

This century takes his total number of international centuries to 75 and Kohli has also touched Sunil Gavaskar’s tally when it comes to centuries against Australia. Both the players are now on the second spot with 8 Test hundreds against the Kangaroos, with Sachin Tendulkar on top with 11.

Kohli is coming out of a relatively tough phase which cost him the Indian captaincy. He was facing a poor run of form across all formats and it was Asia Cup 2022 when things started turning around for the star player. After that, he has shown nothing but excellence across formats and this Test hundred will be really special for him.

Yesterday some such magic was shown by the youth. Shubman Gill Who gave a tough fight to the Australian players and scored 128 runs. It was a responsible partnership of over 100 runs between Gill and Pujara that helped India stand firm against the 480 scored by the Aussies during their first innings.
