Virus cases drop in Nepal, other places to reopen schools – Times of India

Kathmandu: NepalThe capital of the United States announced on Monday that it would ease strict pandemic measures with a plan to reopen schools and sports venues and gradually return city life to normal, as COVID-19 Cases started declining.
The Nepalese government imposed tighter restrictions last month as virus cases broke records, fueled by Omicron’s version. Schools were closed, religious festivals were banned, and restaurants were limited to serving a few customers.
Kathmandu The district administration, in a statement, said it would lift the ban on road traffic from Monday, which had restricted vehicles to odd or even license plates on alternate days.
The announcement states that schools and colleges will be allowed restart In-person teaching from next week.
Schools ordered to close since last month have been demanding the government to reopen educational institutions as the number of Covid-19 cases begins to decline.
Teachers say that online education was limited to only a small segment of the population living in urban areas of the Himalayan country, while most students were being denied the opportunity to learn.
Theatres, gyms and other public places, closed since last month, will also be allowed to open and operate normally. Sports venues and stadiums will be allowed to host half the capacity of spectators.
Officials will maintain the requirement that people keep their vaccination cards in public and take social distancing measures.
Nepal has fully vaccinated 52% of the population, including students and children aged 12 years and above. It has reported more than 1 million coronavirus cases and 11,814 deaths since the pandemic began.
Similar relaxations were expected in other parts of the country after the lifting of restrictions in the capital city and adjoining districts.
