A 25-year-old married woman ended her life by hanging herself in her house on Wednesday near Urvasi Junction of Kancharapalem police station area in Visakhapatnam. The incident came to light after the police registered a case late on Wednesday night.
According to reports, the woman, identified as D. Uma Gayatri, was married to D. Ramakrishna, an employee of a private firm, about three years ago. He reportedly took the step on Wednesday when no other family member was present in the house. He was later taken to the hospital, but was declared brought dead.
Kancharapalem police station inspector B. Krishna Rao said that Gayatri’s family members had alleged that her husband and in-laws were harassing her for dowry. Acting on the complaint, the police have registered a case.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Harbour Sub-Division) Sirisha is investigating the matter.
