On February 12, Goyani had killed Grishma outside his house in Pasodra village under Kamrej police station in Surat district. He slit her throat with a knife kept in her bag and later attempted to kill herself. Goyani was carrying two knives and injured his uncle and brother before attacking the deceased. Goyani had been following Grishma for several weeks to convince her to have a relationship with him.
Goyani was caught by the police from the spot. The police filed a 2,500-page chargesheet in the court within nine days of the crime. The court had on April 21 convicted Goyani of murder, attempt to murder and other charges.
